MN Crit Championship

I have been racing when I can and training when I can, but life's been busy with the little addition to our family. I was able to sneak away yesterday and race the MN Crit Champs. This race is in our sponsor Grandstay's backyard, so it's an important one for us. Add in the fact that it's the state champs it makes it even more so. We had 9 guys in the race, which was a quarter of the field, but I guess you can't give us too hard of a time for enjoying bike races. It was windy and selective and the goal was to attack and get in breakaways. After a few laps the race winning move was made consisting of Myself, Jens and Mean Dawg from Grandstay and Dave Hackworthy from GP. We were all riding fast, Dave got a little bit of a free ride being the lone outside teamer, but he pulled through when he had to. Eventually we lapped the field and had to adjust our tactics. Dave attacked a few time and I followed him. I tried attacking and he followed me. We weren't going anywhere. On the last lap he jumped early. I followed him until he blazed the last corner. He gapped me and pulled off a strong win, I followed in for second with Jens and Andy 3rd and 4th. Dave rode a great race and deserved the win. I felt good all day, but just came up a little short. That happens and I don't feel too bad about it. The consolation prize came after the race when we realized Dave lives in Wisconsin which meant I won the MN Championship. While not the ideal way to take the title, I'll take what I can get.

Update : Dan just reminded me I won the State Crit Championship for the cat 4/5's back in 1999. I actually found a picture. I had hair. It was a photo finish between Chucker and myself.
