Cyclocross

Carhartt Bibs - Turns out they are better for chopping wood than racing cyclocross.

I had a pretty low key cyclocross season this year. The only goal I had was to win the State Championship. Fortunately, I managed to pull it off . With the birth of our daughter life has been fun, but busy. I haven't had a lot of time to train, so I've had to rely on willpower and experience at most of the races this year. Somehow that has translated into some pretty good results. It didn't hurt that I had an amazing team to get me to the finish. Grandstay's focus was on the MCF race calendar in the 1/2 field and we won just about everything we could. I ended up winning the State Criterium, Road and Cross titles this year, which I'm pretty proud of.

Of all the races, the State Cyclocross race seems to have the most spectators. I think that makes for a little extra motivation. I really appreciated all the cheering and general yelling at me. It made me actually look forward to running up those stairs.

Winning a race in a sprint or on the last lap is always the most invigorating kind of victory and Brian Eppen, Jack Hinkins and Dewey Dickey made me earn it. That was my 6th Minnesota Cyclocross Championship. I previously won it in 2002,2003,2004,2006, and 2007. This one ranks as one of the more exciting of those victories in that I didn't know if I'd be able to pull it off until I crossed the line.

are you yawning across the finish line? and who beat you in 2005?

Yeah, It's hard to stay focused for an entire hour.

2005 was a battle between Matt Kelly and Myself. We were trading the lead and attacking each other until I cracked with 4 laps or so to go. At that point I couldn't pedal anymore and got beat badly. Aric Hareland won the MN state title since Matt is from Wisco. Last year I was beat into submission by Dewey, Bergman and Pat Lemeiux who won the event.
